Andy Murray to return in doubles at Queen's

Andy Murray is set to return to competitive tennis in doubles at Queen's Club after career-saving hip surgery.

The former world number one has not played since the Australian Open in January. Murray will team up with Spain's Feliciano Lopez in the grass tournament in London which will start on 17 June, just two weeks before the start of Wimbledon.

"I am really excited to return to the match court for the first time since my surgery," said the 32-year-old Scot.

"Queen's has always been a special place for me and it's the perfect place to return. It's where I won my first ATP match, my first title in Britain and on grass, and it's been my most successful tournament overall."

The two-time Olympic singles champion could even play doubles at Wimbledon.

"I'm not yet ready to return to the singles court, but I've been pain-free for a few months now. I've made good progress in training and on the practice court, and this is the next step for me as I try to return to the tour."

The three-time Grand Slam champion underwent a resurfacing operation on his left hip on 28 January after other treatments failed to ease the pain which had plagued him since the middle of 2017.

Murray has been back in training for a few weeks and feels he has made enough progress to attempt a comeback.

On Saturday, he posted a video on his Instagram account of him serving on a grass court fueling speculation of his imminent return to the circuit.

Murray has won a record five singles titles at Queen's while Lopez took the tournament in 2017.
