The All England Open 2023 badminton tournament, a BWF Super 1000 event, ran from March 14 to 19 at the Arena Birmingham in UK.
Started in 1899, the All England championships is one of the most prestigious events in the annual badminton calendar.
To date, only two Indian badminton players - Prakash Padukone (men’s singles in 1980) and Pullela Gopichand (men’s singles in 2001) - have won All England titles. Prakash Nath, in 1947, Saina Nehwal, in 2015, and Lakshya Sen, in 2022, made the finals.
A total of 16 Indians, including PV Sindhu and 2022 up Lakshya Sen, competed at the All England Open 2023. Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal was also set to compete but pulled out in the 11th hour.
The women's doubles pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly were the standout performers for India at Birmingham, reaching the semi-finals.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the sixth seeds in men’s doubles, were the only seeded Indians in the competition.
The first round matches of all five categories - men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles - were split between March 14 and 15, the opening two days of the All England Open. All second-round matches were played on March 16 while the quarter-finals and semi-finals werere scheduled on March 17 and 18.
