The Ahmedabad Marathon 2024 flags off from the Atal Bridge on Sunday.
Started in 2017, this will be the eighth edition of the annual marathon, sanctioned by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
The Ahmedabad Marathon is expected to see more than 20,000 runners participate across four races - full marathon (42.195km), half marathon (21.097km), 10km run and 5km event. The marathon will be live streamed.
All four races start from the Atal Bridge. The marathon route will cover iconic locations such as the Gandhi Ashram and Ellis Bridge. The course was revised in 2023 and this will be the second edition on the same route.
“The course is a little different this season and there is also scope for many of the runners to better their personal best times. This is a beautiful course which is close to the Sabarmati River,” race director Dave Cundy said.
Last year, Bhagat Singh Valvi completed the men’s full marathon course in two hours, 30 minutes and 16 seconds. Shivnath Singh holds India’s national record of 2:12:00 set in 1978 in Jalandhar.
Women’s full marathon last year was won by Seema in 3:12:17. The national record belongs to OP Jaisha, who clocked 2:34:43 at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.
Through its #Run4OurSoldiers initiative, the Ahmedabad Marathon will also see over 3,000 runners from the Indian Armed Forces take part.
