Nigeria bested Guinea-Bissau 1-0 on Monday (22 January) in a tight contest at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023 in the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

Monday's game concludes Group A play. Equatorial Guinea topped the table after a final 4-0 win over Côte d'Ivoire ran up their goal differential. Nigeria finished second. Both teams advance to the knockout stage.

Nigeria got its lone score of the game in the 36th minute, as Guinea-Bissau's Opa Sangante produced an own goal.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the closing minutes of the second half - including in the 82' when it appeared Guinea-Bissau's Franculino Djú had done it and in the 84th minute as Zaidu Sanusi found the net - but both were ruled offsides.

Play in the round of 16 begins Saturday, 27 January.
