Ada Hegerberg’s status at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is under threat having been withdrawn from the line-up minutes before Norway were due to take on Switzerland.

Having gone through the warm-ups, singing the national anthem, and even taking the team photo, Hegerberg was captured heading down the tunnel as both teams readied for kick-off.

Norwegian outlet TV2 has since reported that this is due to an injury sustained at the very last minute

The national team doctor, Trygve Hunemo, says that the Lyon striker ‘felt a sensation in her groin’ during the final sprints of her warm-up.

We’re yet to know the severity of her injury, meaning she is now a doubt for their final group clash with the Philippines.

Having been beaten by New Zealand in their tournament opener, and with Switzerland seeing off the Philippines in theirs, this game is a must-win should they aim to progress out of the group stages.

Both Caroline Graham Hansen and Ingrid Engen have dropped to the bench following that defeat, and now with the absence of Hegerberg, the Scandinavians will need to dig deep for a big result on Tuesday (25 July) evening.

Sophie Roman Haug is the player called in to start in the place of Ada.
