From 2 to 13 October, the popular Shanghai Masters returns as the penultimate ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the 2024 season.

All the big names in tennis are continuing their campaigns in the People’s Republic of China following the China Open, held in the capital of Beijing.

Defending champion Hubert Hurkacz is missing this year, the only top 10 player absent from the draw in an otherwise stacked lineup battling it out.

The tournament takes place at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center in the Minhang District, standing out as the only Asian ATP Masters 1000 event on the calendar.

Here is everything you need to know about the 2024 Shanghai Masters.

2024 Shanghai Masters – key players

The top seven players in the world take up the top seeds in the draw, led by world number one Jannik Sinner, who has a healthy lead at the top of the ATP world rankings going into the final stretch of the season.

Though he will be the tournament's third seed, Carlos Alcaraz will enter Shanghai as the world number two, after surpassing Alexander Zverev.

Alcaraz has had a busy post-Olympic month, first guiding Spain to the Davis Cup knockout stages followed by leading Team Europe to victory in the Laver Cup.

Talking of the Olympic Games, Paris 2024 gold medallist Novak Djokovic can close the gap to the top three with victory in Shanghai.
