When and where is the Lausanne Diamond League?
The 49th edition of the Athletissima meet will take place mainly on Thursday, 22 August at the La Pontaise Olympic stadium, with a regular capacity of 15,700.
The events will however start on Wednesday, 21 August with the men's pole vaulters competing in the city event that will be free of charge for the public at Ouchy (Place de la Navigation) from 6:00pm.
Diamond League action in the stadium begins at 7:45pm on Thursday with the women’s shot put.
A slew of Olympic champions in parade at the Athlettissima
The Lausanne Diamond League will offer spectacular head-to-heads with a few being repeats from the Olympics at Stade de France.
There will be plenty to look forward to at Ouchy too where the top four from the men’s pole vault final at the Olympics converge again.
After leaping to his ninth world pole vault record with 6.25m in Paris, there will be renewed focus on Swedish star Duplantis as he looks to stretch his winning streak to 13 months.
The double Olympic champion hasn’t lost since his fourth place in Monaco in July 2023. Olympic podium finishers American Sam Kendricks and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, and Filipino E.J. Obiena, will also look to thrill the crowds at Ouchy.
Coming off a shock golden run over the 200m, Tebogo, Botswana’s first Olympic champion, will aim to repeat as the fastest man across the line in the half-lap.
He will face other 200m finalists Erriyon Knighton, Joseph Fahnbulleh of Liberia and Dominican Alexander Ogando as well as Paris Olympics 100m bronze medallist Fred Kerley.
After a closely contested 800m Olympic final, Kenya’s Wanyonyi and Marco Arop, the silver medallist from that race, will renew their rivalry in a non-Diamond League race. Mohamed Attaoui of Spain and Frenchman Gabriel Tual, who were fifth and sixth respectively in the final when Wanyonyi blazed to the fifth-fastest time ever of 1:41.19, will also be on the start line.
Lausanne will also see the return of another unbeaten man this season in Grant Holloway, who finally added the Olympic 110m hurdles title to his resume, as well as Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the 5000m gold medallist from Stade de France.
The Norwegian will step back down to the 1500m, an event in which he finished off the podium in Paris, where he is likely to face the gold medallist Cole Hocker and Kenya’s 2019 world champion Timothy Cheruiyot.
Triple Olympic medallist Femke Bol will return to the 400m hurdles, in which she earned Olympic bronze behind world-record-breaker Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone who dazzled with a new world record of 50.37 seconds. But McLaughlin-Levrone will not be in Lausanne.
The top four finalists in the men’s Olympic long jump, led by Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou who defended his Olympic crown, are confirmed for the men’s long jump, while Ukrainian star Mahuchikh is the top pick for the women’s high jump.
