The 2024 European Curling Championships are heading to Lohja, Finland where, from 16-23 November, 20 curling teams will battle it out for the continental crown.

The event will see the women’s and men’s competitions take place concurrently, meaning a jammed-pack week of curling action.

Both contests will adopt the same format. All teams will play each other once in a round-robin before the top four teams are paired up for two semi-final matches.

The winners will advance to the final while bronze medal matches will take place for the runners-up.

In addition to crowning a new European champion the European Curling Championship will also qualify European curling teams to the 2025 World Curling Championships.

The top eight men’s and women’s team will book their place at the showpiece event next year where there will also be the opportunity to secure quota spots for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Find out more about the teams, the schedule and how you can watch the medal games live on Olympic Channel via Olympics.com.

As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Milano Cortina Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Milano Cortina 2026.

Scotland and Switzerland return as defending champions

Reigning European men’s champions Scotland will be aiming for a fourth consecutive European crown when the curling gets underway in Lohja.

Led by skip Bruce Mouat, the Beijing 2022 silver medallists will arrive at the event buoyed by good form, having captured their eighth Grand Slam of Curling title (and second this season) on Sunday 10 November to add to their record as the most successful non-Canadian quartet in the history of Grand Slams.

Scotland will know from experience that the competition is fierce on the European stage, and with teams looking to build towards Milano Cortina, this is as good an opportunity as any for the rest of the field to pounce.

Four European teams, including Scotland, make up the world’s top five with Olympic champions Sweden, led by Niklas Edin, the world's number one ranked side. They will be in action in Finland, as well as Italy and Switzerland who similarly pose credible threats to Scotland’s historic pursuit of a fifth title.

In the women’s division, world number one ranked side Switzerland will be looking to go back-to-back after defeating Italy to take gold last year in Aberdeen.

After loosening their grip on their world title earlier this year in the final to Canada, a return to the top on the international stage will be a wanted boost for Silvana Tirinzoni’s quartet but, just as with Scotland in the men's side, it won't be easy.

Anna Hasselborg’s Sweden, Italy and Denmark will be among looking to knock the Swiss off their perch.
