Ireland's women stunned hosts Australia to take their first World Rugby Sevens event victory in Perth on Sunday (28 January).

Australia had won both previous rounds in the 2023/24 World Rugby SVNS series, but they were denied a hat-trick as Eve Higgins' late try saw the Irish prevail 19-14.

Charlotte Caslick's early try was cancelled out by Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe as the sides went into the break level at 7-7.

Teagan Levi put Australia in front again, but Lucy Mulhall responded before Higgins crossed late on to seal a famous win.

Great Britain defeated USA 24-10 in the third-place playoff.

Pumas canter to second consecutive Sevens event triumph

Argentina's men backed up last month's Cape Town victory with Australia again their victims in the final.

Flying wing Marcos Moneta scored the only try of the first half after Nathan Lawson had been yellow-carded. But the Pumas ran riot after the break with scores from German Schulz, two from Matteo Graziano, and another from Moneta putting them into a 31-0 lead.

Matthew Gonzalez went over for a late consolation, but Argentina ran out comfortable 31-5 winners to extend their lead at the top of the series standings.

On a great day for Ireland, their men beat Olympic champions Fiji 24-7 to take third place on the day.
