15-year-old Shiva Narwal trumps Tokyo-bound Saurabh Chaudhary at shooting trials 

Shiva Narwal topped the men's 10m pistol event while Chinki Yadav outdid Rahi Sarnobat and Manu Bhaker in women's 25m pistol

N Gaayathri, and Chinki Yadav aced in the 50m rifle 3-position and 25m pistol events respectively during the trials that are being held at the Dr Karni Singh shooting range in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Pankaj Kumar and Shiva Narwal bagged the top spots in the men's 10m rifle and 10m pistol events respectively.

In the 10m pistol event, Army's Ravinder Singh finished on top in the qualification with 584. Whereas, world number four Saurabh Chaudhary matched his score to progress to the next round.

It was a tough fight in the finals, but 15-year-old Shiva Narwal of Haryana trumped both Singh and Chaudhary to finish first with a score of 244.3. Singh narrowly missed the top spot with 244 while Chaudhary was a distant third with 223.6.

Olympic-bound shooter Manu Bhaker started with a lot of promise as she topped the qualifiers with a score of 582, but could not maintain her performance later in the day as she finished third in the 25m pistol event behind Yadav and Rahi Sharnobat with a score of 30.

Yadav hit two perfect 5s and three series of four to finish with 37 ahead of Sharnobat, who could manage only 34.

On the other hand, N Gaayathri finished sixth in the qualifiers in the women's 3P with a score of 1163, which was topped by Sunidhi Chauhan with 1170.

But in the finals, she brought out her best to reach a score of 457.7 and beat Tokyo bound Anjum Moudgil and Tejaswini Sawant who could post 435.1 and 424.3 respectively. Chauhan came second with 456 while Odisha's Shriyanka Sadangi came third with 445.6.

In the men's 10m rifle, Arjun Babuta topped the qualifiers with 631.5. Whereas, Olympic bound Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Deepak Kumar came second and fourth respectively with 629.9 and 629.2. Another Tokyo ticket holder Divyansh Singh Panwar had a disappointing day as he finished 10th with 627.2.

However, in the finals, it was Army's Pankaj Kumar who came on top with a score of 250.8. He stood third at the qualification stage.

Babuta had to settle for the second spot with 250.1. Singh and Kumar finished fifth and eighth respectively in the finals with a score of 187.1 and 123.1.
