Biography

Zenon Begier was a Polish discus thrower who competed at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics. He took up the discus while in the military. Nicknamed “The Giant” because of his height, Begier earned 40 caps for Poland. He won the 1965 European Cup Final and competed at the European Championships in 1962 and 1966. Begier was twice a Polish Champion and was ranked in the world top 10 from 1964-66, with a top ranking of #3 in 1965. Begier was with Sparta Oborniki until 1956, then was with Warta, Poznań from 1957-61, and competed for Zawisza Bydgoszcz in 1962-70.

Personal Best: DT – 60.50 (1968).
