Biography

Williy Simetsreiter, called “Schimmy”, was one of the many players from his club FC Bayern Munich competing internationally in the 1930s. In 1924 he started playing for Bayern’s youth team and was promoted to the first 11 in 1934-35, becoming one of the fastest outside lefts in the history of the club. Only one year later he appeared for the national team in a match against Romania, scoring one goal. He also scored in the Olympic match against Luxembourg and was a team member against Norway. After the Games he only played two more international games, bringing the number of his caps to eight, with eight goals. On the club level, however, he continued to play for Bayern Munch even after World War II. From 1947-55 he was player-coach, and later coach, for TSV Wolfratshausen. Later he was a member of Bayern Munich’s advisory board and was named an honorary member. Originally he trained to become a baker, but worked for the Munich municipality after the war.
