Biography

Walter McClure made the 1912 Olympic Team by winning the Western Olympic Trial at 1,500 metres. He ran for the University of Oregon and the Multnomah AC. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Army infantry in 1916. He served in World War I and later with Gen. John Pershing in the Mexican Border War campaign. McClure eventually reached the rank of colonel. For his service he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart.
