Vincent D'Autorio became interested in gymnastics in high school. D’Autorio made the 1940 US Olympic team but had to wait until 1948 and 1952, when he was in his 30s, to compete at the Olympics. He worked full-time as a jeweler while competing, but later became a gymnastics coach at Panzer College in New Jersery, started his own gymnastics school in Westchester County and also judged gymnastics competitions. After moving to Sarasota, Florida in the 1960s, he became involved in several business ventures, including the development of two condominium projects on Siesta Key and co-owning a Shells seafood restaurant. D’Autorio was inducted into the US Gymnastic Hall of Fame in 1971. In 1988 he carried the Olympic Torch as it passed thru Sarasota.
