Biography

Troy Tanner played volleyball at Pepperdine University, where he was a three-time All-American and led the Waves to two NCAA titles. Tanner twice played for the USA at the Universiade, and won a silver medal at the 1986 Goodwill Games, in addition to his 1988 Olympic appearance. After the Olympics he played professionally in Rome, Italy, Zagreb, Croatia and Osaka, Japan. From 1992-99 he turned to beach volleyball on the AVP Tour. Tanner later coached at Brigham Young University from 1997-2002, but then returned to California where he coached the Pepperdine women’s volleyball team for one year, stepping down for family reasons. He also owned and directed the T-Street Volleyball Club in Irvine, California.
