Biography

Torodd Hauer started his competitive career as a speed skater at the end of World War II, aged 23. He was a sprint specialist, competing three times in the national all-round Championships, but was unplaced on all occasions. In 1948, however, he placed third at the 500 m and was selected for the St. Moritz Olympics, where he finished sixth. In the 1952 Oslo games he was a substitute in the 500. Hauer continued to skate at the national level until the age of 40, and bettered his personal best for 500 m at age 36, and two years later he set personal bests for the longer distances. Later in life he settled in Lillehammer, where he owned and ran a successful construction firm.

Personal Bests: 500 – 42.0 (1959); 1500 – 2:23.0 (1959); 5000 – 8:54.4 (1961).
