Biography

Toni Brutscher suffered severe wounds received in World War II, but returned to ski jumping in 1946. At the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics he came fourth in the normal hill competition. In 1949 and 1955 he was German Champion and in 1954 finished second, and a year earlier was fourth in the Four Hills Tournament. He qualified for the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Games but failed to participate due to health reasons. Brutscher retired in 1960 and became a folk musician and played accordion with the “Toni Brutscher Trio”. He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf in 1952 by then German president Theodor Heuss. Brutscher died from cancer in 1983.
