Biography

Tom Lieb of Notre Dame won the NCAA discus in 1922 and 1923 and the AAU title in 1923 and 1924. After winning the Final Trials at 153-6 (46.78), Lieb could manage only third place at the Olympic with a throw of 147-0 (44.80) but two months after the Games he took the world record up to 156-2 (47.61). Lieb later became a football coach, coaching at Wisconsin, Florida, Alabama, and Notre Dame. He also wrote several books about line coaching techniques.
