Biography

Tatyana Savelyeva, the best Soviet female backstroke swimmer in the middle of the 1960s, was selected to the Soviet national team in 1964, when she won her first Soviet title in the 100 back. Savelyeva first competed internationally at the 1964 Olympics, where she won bronze in the 4x100 m medley relay and was eliminated in the first round of the 100 back. During her career, Savelyeva also competed at the 1966 European Championships and 1968 Olympics, but did not medal in those tournaments. Domestically, Savelyeva was a five-time Soviet champion – in 1964-66 in 100 back and in 1967-68 in the 200 back.

Personal Best: 100 m backstroke – 1:09.7 (1968); 200 m backstroke – 2:29.8 (1968).
