Biography

Steve Anderson equalled the world record of 14.4 a total of four times, the last time being in 1930 when he won his third consecutive AAU title. This was the only clocking that received official IAAF recognition. He looked a likely winner of the 1928 Olympic crown when the South African, Weightman-Smith, hit the ninth hurdle and left Anderson with a narrow lead, but another South African, Atkinson, came through to reach the tape inches ahead. Representing the University of Washington, he won the NCAA 220y hurdles in 1929 and the high hurdles in 1930.

Personal Best: 110H – 14.4y (1928).
