Biography

Olympian Stephanie Catley, with over 100 caps for the Matildas, is one of Australia’s most accomplished defenders.

Steph Catley, who is currently in the books of English football club Arsenal, started off as a midfielder but has flourished as a defender over the years.

After spending the first three years of her career with A-League Women team Melbourne Victory, she made her debut for the Australian women’s football team, aged 18, against New Zealand in 2012.

She is also a leader on the pitch, having captained Melbourne Victory, with whom she won the Championship in 2013-14, and Melbourne City in the W-League.

Born on January 26, 1994, Steph Catley joined her first football team at the age of six.

The only girl in the East Bentleigh FC squad in Melbourne, where her older brother played, she was 15 when she made her senior debut with Melbourne Victory and was picked for the U-17 Australian national team shortly after.

Having made her senior debut in 2012, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015, held in Canada, was Catley’s first major international assignment and she started at left-back for the Matildas.
