Biography

Simone Greiner-Petter-Memm began her athletic career as a cross country skier from 1987 to 1997, but took up biathlon in 1992, and competed in that sport thru 2000. In addition to her Olympic performance in cross-country at the 1988 Calgary Olympics, Greiner-Petter finished 15th over 20 km. at the 1987 World Championships. Her only individual World Cup victory in cross-country was in a 20 km event in 1988. As a biathlete, she had more success, winning a silver medal in the relay at the 1994 Winter Olympics, three relay gold medals at the 1995, 1997, and 1999 World Championships, and winning individual World Cup races. She later married Silvio Memm, a former nordic combined skier, who participated in the World Championships, but not the Olympics.
