Biography

Sigrid Wolf had only a few years at the top of ski racing, as her career was cut short by a knee injury in December 1990. She first became known when she won 1987 Austrian titles in giant slalom and Super-G. The peak of her career was her Olympic gold medal in Super-G at Calgary in 1988, adding a silver medal in the 1989 World Championships at Vail, Colorado. A power racer who was at her best in Super-G, Wolf won five World Cup races, three in Super-G and two in downhill, with nine podiums in Super-G and 13 overall. She was second in the Super-G World Cup for the 1988-89 season. Wolf was named Austrian Sportswoman of the Year in 1987 and 1988, and in 1996 was given a gold medal for services to the Austrian Republic.
