Biography

Kyrgyz Satymkul Dzhumanazarov was selected for the Soviet national team in 1977, when he won his first Soviet Championships medal, a bronze in marathon. The apex of his career came at the 1980 Olympics, where he won the bronze medal. His other noteworthy placements at major marathon races were fifth at both the 1977 Dębno Marathon in Poland and the 1981 Tokyo Marathon. At the Soviet Championships, besides his 1977 bronze, Dzhumanazarov won silvers in 1980 and 1981 and bronze in 1979. After finishing his sports career, Dzhumanazarov worked as a children’s coach in Kyrgyzstan, but died rather young in April 2007, when he tripped and fell over a balcony during his son’s wedding.
