Biography

A soldier in the Parachute Regiment of the British Army Sean Olsson was the second ranked of Britain’s bobsleigh pilots in the early nineties but when Mark Tout was banned for steroid abuse in 1996 he inherited the number one position in the national team. Olsson’s performances were always better in the four man event and with the acquisition of members of Tout’s crew he improved his performances from 1996 onwards. After placing 4th in the 1997 World Championships he finished on the podium at two World Cup races in 1997-98. Olsson drove his four-man bob to second place after the first run in Nagano but, after weather conditions had cancelled the second run, had a poor start to the second day. He clung on a podium position finishing in a dead heat with France for the bronze medal. This was Britain’s first bobsleigh medal since 1964. He continued to compete after 1998 albeit with less success before moving into the national coaching set-up.
