Biography

Samuel Anderson was a high hurdler who won a bronze medal at the 1951 Pan-American Games and was the gold medalist at the 1954 Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC), having won silver in that event at the 1950 CAC Games. He also competed at the 1955 Pan-Ams, placing fourth in the high hurdles. After graduating from the National Institute of Physical Education in Cuba, he attended the University of Illinois on a track scholarship and stayed in the United States. Also a talented baseball player, he had a tryout with the Chicago White Sox, but never played professional ball, and later had a long career as a receiving clerk.
