Biography

Middle-distance runner Rolf Lamers spent the last days of World War II in the Reichsarbeitsdienst (Reichs Labour Service). He came in sixth in the 1,500 at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games, and then became European Police Champion in 1954. He also won 10 West German titles over different distances. By profession he was a policeman. For several years he and his wife, Anni, ran a sports shop in their hometown of Sterkrade. His nephew Florian later became a nationally successful sprinter.

Personal Best: 1500 – 3:47.18 (1952).
