Robert Schneider raced the road race at the 1972 Olympics, but did not finish. He is far better known for his career in economics. Schneider graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1968 and later earned a PhD in economics from Wisconsin in 1977. He then served for three years in the Peace Corps in Niger. Schneider initially taught environmental and agricultural economics at Williams College until 1981. He then worked as an economist for the International Monetary Fund from 1981-88. In 1988 Schneider moved to The World Bank, where he worked as an economist for almost 20 years, serving as a member of the World Development Report Team in 2003. While at The World Bank, he was lead sustainable development economist for Latin American, and a sector leader for agricultural and the environment for Brazil.
