Renato Anselmi started fencing at the academy before World War I and resumed his activities after the war. He appeared three times at the Olympics, bagging a medal with the Italian team sabre on each occasion. In 1930 and 1931 Anselmi added silver medals at the unofficial World Championships. Individually, he won two Italian titles in 1929 and 1930. In 1948, Anselmi was non-active captain of the Italian team and President of the International Jury. He was an engineer and made a career as an officer advancing to the rank of Divisional General. For his achievements Anselmi was highly decorated, including the Commandery of the Crown of Italy.
