Biography

Ray Clemons wrestled for Oklahoma Central State, where he made All-American three times and as a senior, in 1936, Clemons won the NCAA title as a light-heavyweight. Clemons placed third in the AAU meet in 1934 and was second in 1935, helping Central State to second place in the team competition. He placed fifth at the 1936 Olympics as a light-heavy. In 1939 Clemons played one year of pro football in the NFL, with the Detroit Lions, appearing in six games, mainly as a punter. Through 2015, Clemons is the only Olympian ever from Oklahoma Central State College, later known as the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). In 1990 Clemons was a charter member of the UCO Sports Hall of Fame.
