Pan American Games 2023: USA men and women complete water polo double to secure Paris 2024 Olympic quotas

The USA water polo teams have dominated the Pan American Games in recent years. They go into Lima 2019 after contrasting campaigns at the FINA World Champs. The women secured their third consecutive world title while the men could only manage ninth. Both squads were celebrating the women's triumph when the floor of the Gwangju nightclub they were in collapsed, with Paige Hauschild and Ben Hallock both hurt in the incident which killed two people. Hauschild is out of the Pan American Games but the world champions are hot favourites. The men have yet to book their place at Tokyo 2020, but a seventh consecutive title would see them through to the Olympic Games where they would try to end Europe's decade-long domination of global competitions.
