Biography

Puccio Pucci was a lawyer and son of the notary Piero, manager of the Toscano track and field federation. In 1921 he joined the PNF (National Fascist Party) and in 1924 competed at the Paris Olympics in the 800 metres, not qualifying from the first round.

From 1930-32 Pucci was Secretary of FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation) and from 1939-43 he was secretary-general of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). After the armistice of 8 September 1943, he joined Mussolini’s Italian Social Republic (Salò Republic) and he was named President of CONI on 18 March 1944. After a few months in this position Pucci was ousted and Giulio Onesti assumed his post. After the war Pucci lived in Firenze and in his last years directed a graphics factory in Pomezia.
