Rower Peter Niehusen won the bronze medal with the West German coxed fours at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. He started his rowing career as a cox, and coxed the German eights to victory at both the 1965 and 1966 West German nationals. The boat also won the 1965 European Championships and 1966 Worlds. As a rower he went on to win the bronze medal at the 1974 and 1975 World Championships with the coxed fours.
Niehusen was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. He was spokesman of the active athletes within the German Rowing Association for a couple of years. He later became a graduated economist and worked in the cigarette branch for around 20 years, before he became a self-employed consultant and sports marketing manager.
