Biography

Paul Van Asbroeck was one of the leading free pistol shooters of the early 20th century. He won the individual world title six times (1904, 1907, 1909-10, 1912 and 1914), and the team title six times as well (1905-07, 1910-1912), while adding six silver and bronze medals to the tally, winning his last medal as late as 1925. In addition, he won the 1908 Olympic free pistol title, while taking silver in the team competition. Van Asbroeck was also an outstanding competitor in the free rifle, winning 16 World Championship medals in the various events, including gold in the standing free rifle event in 1905. He also took third place in the 1900 3 positions event at the Olympic Games.
