Biography

Rosa "Ossi" Reichert learned to ski as a child, yet was only able to show off her talents at the Olympics in 1952, because of World War II and the subsequent German exclusion from the 1948 Games. In Oslo, Reichert skied to a silver medal in the slalom, having been in the lead after the first run. Following a sixth place at the 1954 World Championships (slalom), she suffered a severe ankle injury, but recovered in time to make it to the 1956 Winter Games, where she emerged as the unexpected winner of the giant slalom. At the German Championships in the same year, Reichert was also victorious, winning the slalom, giant slalom and combined events - her only national titles. She retired immediately after the successful 1956 winter to tend to the family hotel "Allgäuer Berghof". She later became manager of this establishment near Sonthofen.
