Biography

Olav Kjelbotn achieved national fame when he surprisingly won the 1924 national championship at 30 km. His favorite cross-country distance was the 50 km, and in 1926 Kjelbotn had a great season, winning the Holmenkollen 50 km and coming third at the distance at the world championships. He ended his competitive career after the 1929 season, and went to Greenland as a seal hunter, where he stayed for two years. In 1933 he was a member of a Norwegian expedition to the Antarctic. He then settled in Namsos and worked as a carpenter until his retirement.
