Biography

Neville Scott initially showed promise as a middle-distance runner, winning the New Zealand junior mile title in 1954. At the 1958 Commonwealth Games, he finished 3rd in the 3-mile run, and 9th in the mile. His career then suffered from the ravages of alcoholism, but he recovered to make the 1964 Olympic team. Shortly before the 1964 Olympics, he fell and injured his hip, but competed at Tokyo despite the pain. During his career he won the New Zealand three-mile title three times and set New Zealand records in the 1,500 metres, 2-miles, and 3-miles.

Personal Bests: 1500 – 3:42.87 (1956); 5000 – 13:45.0 (1965).
