Biography

Mike McDermott was US indoor breaststroke champion for nine straight years, from 1910-18. He won 32 national championships in swimming and water polo, competing in both sports. He later developed a lucrative general contracting firm in the Chicago area. In 1955, McDermott served as chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Chicago Pan-American Games. That same year he was elected to the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
