Biography

During his career, Mika Laitinen won three gold medals in the team event at major international championships and one individual bronze. Laitinen won the golds at the 1992 Olympic Winter Games and 1995 and 1997 World Championships. His only individual medal came on the normal hill at the 1995 World Championships. Laitinen also competed at the 1998 Winter Olympics and 1999 World Championships, but did not medal. During the 1995-1996 World Cup, Laitinen dominated the first half, by winning five of the nine competitions, but then fell during the Four-Hills Tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and broke his collar bone, losing all hope for an overall World Cup victory, eventually finishing in sixth place.
