Mike Buncic was a discus thrower who competed at both the 1988 and 1992 Olympics. He was US Champion in the discus in 1995 and was a four-time runner-up, also placing third three times. Internationally Buncic won a bronze medal at the 1990 Goodwill Games and competed at the 1986 Goodwills, finishing seventh. He also threw the discus at the 1991 and 1993 World Championships, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively. Buncic led the world list in 1991 with a throw of 69.36 metres.
Buncic graduated from the University of Kentucky, and later earned a masters’ degree from San Jose State University. While at Kentucky he placed third at the NCAA Meet in 1984 and 1985. After retiring from competition in 1996, he became a physiology teacher in California high schools.
