Marzieh Hamidi is a taekwondo athlete in the women's -57kg category and an IOC Refugee Athlete Scholarship-holder.
Born in Iran to Afghan refugee parents, Hamidi faced many struggles growing up. Therefore, she decided to return to her country of origin, Afghanistan, to study.
However, her life changed in 2021 when the Taliban returned to power in the country, forcing her to flee. Hamidi was first evacuated to Qatar that November before settling in France the following month.
Despite the challenges she has faced, including learning the language and being weighed down by her previous experiences, Marzieh was able to join a taekwondo club. Her talents were recognised by one of the coaches and she now trains regularly with the French national team.
Now that taekwondo has helped her to settle into her new life in Paris, she hopes to go all the way and be selected for the IOC Refugee Olympic Team Paris 2024.
