Biography

Lucjan Lis was a Polish cyclist who was best known for his results in the team time trial. He won a silver medal at the 1972 Olympics, and at the World Championships won gold in 1973 at Barcelona and bronze in 1971 at Mendrisio. Individually he was less successful, but won the 1973 Tour of Poland, winning the seventh stage. In 1972 he won stage two at the Uniqa Classic in Wien (Vienna), Austria. Lis was second in the 1972 Tour of Bulgaria, and third in the 1970 Polish Road Championship. Lis grew up near a coal mine in Bytom and had a degree in mining. He retired quite early from cycling due to serious kidney problems that affected him much of his life.
