Biography

Laurie Flachmeier played college volleyball at Texas Lutheran College where she led them to the AIAW D-2 National Title in 1975 and 1976. She was a member of the US Women’s National Team from 1978-84, winning a silver medal at the 1984 Olympics and a bronze medal at the 1982 World Championships. She was also on the ill-fated 1980 US Olympic team and competed at the 1978 World Championships and the 1979 Pan American Games. Flachmeier later played professional volleyball in Major League Volleyball with the San Jose Golddiggers. She was a three-time US Volleyball Association (USVBA) All-American (1985-86, 1992) and in 1992 was USVBA Player of the Year. In 1998 Flachmeier was given the Flo Hyman All-Time Great Player Award by the USVBA.

In 1986 Flachmeier, by then Laurie Corbelli, began coaching volleyball, first at the University of San Francisco from 1986-89, then at Santa Clara University from 1990-93. In 1993 she took over as head coach at Texas A&M where she coached for over 20 years.
