Biography

Lars-Erik Skiöld took up wrestling in 1964 and found his first international success in 1969 when he won silver at the World Junior Championships. That was followed by titles at the 1970 and 1972 European Junior Championships. Competing in Greco-Roman lightweight his entire senior career, Skiöld won Olympic bronze in 1980, World Championships silver in 1977, and European Championships gold in 1976 and bronze in 1975. He also finished fourth at the 1976 Olympics, fifth at the 1974 Worlds and sixth at the 1973 Worlds and 1974 European Championships. Skiöld was Nordic Greco-Roman lightweight champion in 1971-72, 1974-76, and 1978 and Swedish champion in 1971-78 and 1980. He was also a competent football player, who played with IFK Malmö at the Swedish Division 2. After finishing his sporting career, Skiöld worked as a wrestling coach.
