Lakshya SEN

Lakshya made his first significant international mark in 2014 by winning the Swiss Junior International. By February 2017, he was crowned junior world No. 1, establishing himself as one of India’s brightest badminton prospects.

Lakshya’s crowning moment in the junior category came at the Asian Junior Championships 2018, where he clinched the gold medal, becoming the first Indian in 53 years to achieve the feat. Later that year, he bagged a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games at Buenos Aires 2018, losing to the People’s Republic of China's Li Shifeng in the final, and a bronze at the World Junior Championships. He also won the gold medal in the mixed team event at the Youth Olympics.

Transitioning to the senior circuit, Lakshya Sen quickly adapted to the higher level of competition. His first major senior title came at the Dutch Open 2019, a BWF World Tour Super 100 event. He followed it up with a win at the Saarlorlux Open, propelling him into the top 50 of the world rankings. By 2021, Lakshya was consistently competing against—and defeating—some of the sport’s biggest names. His bronze medal at the BWF World Championships 2021, where Lakshya defeated Tokyo 2020 Olympic semi-finalist Kevin Cordon of Guatemala and others, underscored his potential for the big stage.

In 2022, Lakshya Sen scaled new heights. He began the year with a maiden Super 500 title at the India Open and made headlines with a silver at the All England Open, narrowly losing to Axelsen in a hard-fought final. Later, he was pivotal in India’s historic Thomas Cup triumph, delivering crucial victories throughout the tournament. His year ended with a thrilling Commonwealth Games gold medal, where he defeated Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in the final.

Lakshya Sen was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2022. In November that year, he rose to a career-high ranking of world No. 6. He continued to make strides in 2023 and 2024, winning the Canada Open and Syed Modi International BWF World Tour titles, respectively.
