Biography

Ko Nakamura competed as a discus thrower under that name at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, finishing fourth. She next competed at the Olympics in 1952 as Ko Yoshino, again placing fourth. The 16-year gap between appearances is the largest ever for a female in athletics at the Olympics, through 2017. She returned for a third Olympic appearance at the 1956 Melbourne Games. Nakamura-Yoshino’s best tournament was surely the 1951 Asian Games when she won titles in the shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw.
