Biography

Dibiasi was born in Austria of Italian parents who returned to Italy when he was a child. He was the first Italian to become an Olympic champion in a diving event. The diver was coached by his father, Carlo, a former Italian champion (1933-36) and a 1936 Olympian, who finished 10th on the platform.

Starting off with silver…

Italy's Klaus Dibiasi won a silver medal in platform diving at the Olympic Games in 1964, and went on to win gold in the same event at the next three editions of the Games (1968, 1972, 1976). He also won a silver medal in the 3m platform in 1968.

… leading to gold at three consecutive editions

Dibiasi is the only Olympic diver to have won three successive gold medals, and he is the only diver to have won medals at four editions of the Olympic Games. A silver medal in the springboard in 1968 gave him a record total of five Olympic medals. Later Klaus also coached the Italian diving team.
