Kimberly Chace competed at the 1972 and 1976 Olympics, and at the 1970 World Championships, when she was only 14-years-old. Chace was US Champion on beam in 1971, and competed that year at the Pan American Games, winning golds on beam and with the team, silver on floor, and bronzes in all-around and uneven bars. She was trained by her father.
In July 1973 Chace married Chuck Boyle, having a child together in 1974, but they would divorce before the 1976 Montréal Games. She briefly retired from competition, and together Chace and Boyle started Kim Chace Gymnastics, Inc., which taught aspiring gymnasts. When Chace decided to return to competition, this entity brought her amateur standing into question, but she was eventually allowed to compete again as an amateur.
