Biography

As a senior at South Lakes High School in Virginia, Wes Suter won all seven state titles in gymnastics, giving him a total of 15 state titles for his high school career, including three in the all-around. He then attended the University of Nebraska, helping to the NCAA team title in 1983. In 1985 he won the NCAA all-around championships along with the floor exercise and horizontal bar titles, ending a college career that included three NCAA titles and five All-American selections.

In the 1980s Suter made an educational film called “Wes’s Way,” also starring Frank Gifford and Jack Kemp. The film was distributed to high school health classes and focused on the importance of exercise and nutrition.

After his 1988 Olympic appearance, Suter was named US Male Gymnast of the Year for 1988. He then earned an MBA from the University of Nebraska in 1993 and a law degree from Creighton in 1997. He later worked as an attorney for Mutual of Omaha in corporate mergers and acquisitions, eventually becoming senior vice-president of corporate strategy.
