Biography

Backstroker Jürgen Dietze competed at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome (eliminated in the semi-finals in the 100m) and the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo (eliminated in the heats in the 200m). A trained engineer, Dietze later added studies as a graduated sports teacher in Leipzig.

Dietze, who wrote several swimming textbooks, became a professor at the University of Leipzig for theory and coaching methods in the sport of swimming. He also was involved in building up the sports science faculty of the university.
